The Alexander Technique a method of teaching movement, to free the body of unnecessary tension.

How Does it work?

The Technique is based on a few simple and fundamental principles.

We are mostly unconscious of our habitual patterns of movement. Changing these pattern is only possible if we stop doing what we already do, not by trying to do more.

There are two keys to unlocking this potential for change. One is to develope an awareness of how the whole body functions, in any activity. The other is to learn how to control alignment by changing the way the head balances on the neck and thre rest of the spine.

Once the body is freed of the tensions which tie it down, a whole range of previously unimaginable movement becomes possible.

WHO CAN IT HELP?

People of all ages and all walks of life can benefit from the Alexander Technique.

Students of the Technique can gain welcome relief from symptoms such as stiff necks and shoulders, sore backs and arms. Asthma and headache sufferers can also benefit.

If you practise a sport, dance, act, sing or play an instruments, the Technique can help you develop your skills. The Technique is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It teaches consciousness in everyday life.

The Technique has been taught for many years in leading schools around the world, including the Juilliard Music School in New York, the London Acadamy of Music and Dramatic Art and Royal College of Music, and in Australia, the NSW Conservatorium of Music, The Canberra School of Music, and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
